As the premier NYS Farm Brewery in Western New York, we know that
the local hop harvest is an occasion for celebration. Each year, we brew a special wet-hopped ale using farm-fresh, local hops in honor of the
local farms that give us the high-quality ingredients that make our beer so good.
Once again we are calling together the “Cascade brigade” to escort our hop chariot from Alfredson’s Hop Farm to our brewery – and this time, it’s for a cause.
The Cause
We’ll be celebrating the hop harvest in our tasting room with live music, drinks, food, games, and raffles. The fundraiser will kick off at noon with proceeds from the raffle and from Ticket Sales going to the WNY Chapter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Live performances throughout the day from Wacko Fest and Debbie Knight and the Knight Crew.
As its name suggests, the Foundation Fighting Blindness is a nonprofit whose mission is to fund research to provide preventions, treatments, and cures for inherited retinal degenerative diseases. These diseases lead to blindness and affect more than 10 million people in the United States.
The Ride
Before the fundraiser kicks off at the tasting room, our “Cascade Brigade” will assemble at Alfredson’s Hop Farm to provide an escort for our precious cargo. These “guardians of the hops” will lead the official RNBC hop chariot through the winding roads of Erie County farm country.
All motorcyclists are welcome to take part in the hop chariot. A special presentation along with a Meet & Greet with the farmers will begin at 9:45 AM. Registration will open at 10:30 with kickstands up at 11:00 AM. Coffee and fruits will be provided before the ride. Tickets include entry to the fundraiser following the ride as well as one (1) complimentary beer the day of the event and as a thank you to the riders, one (1) additional complimentary drink ticket for use during our Harvest Fest on September 29, 2018.

What the heck is a wet hop!?
“Wet Hop” is a term that brewers use when hops are picked fresh off the bine and used immediately in a brew. Typically, hops are kilned right after harvest leaving about 9% moisture which preserves them and makes them easier to store.
Fresh, wet hops, on the other hand, are about 80% moisture which makes storage and shipping more difficult. They are generally packed loosely in cardboard boxes and shipped straight to the brewery where they are put directly into the brew.
Brewers can use as much as four to five times as many wet hops as they would dry hops to achieve a similar bitterness in their beer. Still, the resulting flavor is generally less bitter and could be described as grassy or fresh.
Since it is so important for wet hops to be used as quickly as possible, wet hopped beer is brewed almost exclusively by American craft brewers based in hop-growing areas.
