Standing behind the bar at Rusty Nickel Brewing Co. are the brewtenders who pour your pints, fill your flights and serve up some stellar recommendations. They earned the title of brewtender because they’re Cicerone Certified Beer Servers who have had a hand in the brewing process and know the ins and outs of our beers.
For most of our brewtenders, serving and brewing beer is a passion that they pursue beyond the call of their nine to five. They work here because they love it, and we’re happy that they do! That’s why we wanted to introduce them to you, one by one in our “Meet the Brewtender” series.
Introducing our Employee of Quarter 1, Anjolie!
If you’ve been to our tasting room on a Monday or a Thursday, chances are you’ve seen Anjolie’s smiling face behind the bar. Anjolie – or Anj, as many of her co-workers and RNBC regulars call her – has been working in the tasting room since 2016 and has been a part of employee training as well as the FemAle series.
Anjolie’s rapport with her customers is what made her the perfect candidate for our first-ever employee of the quarter. A friendly face behind the bar, she’s happy to strike up a conversation about beer or use her knowledge as a Cicerone Certified Beer Server to help guide customers to drink choices that they’ll love.
One of her favorite parts of working as a Brewtender on the Rusty Nickel team has been the amount of beer knowledge she’s been able to gain – from beer styles to proper glassware to the brewing process, everything she’s learned so far has only increased her interest in beer.
“Aside from the educational aspect I have worked with and served some outstanding people who I now am lucky to call my friends and Rusty Nickel family”
Besides Brewtending, Anjolie has been brewing with the FemAle series since their first beer, Estrogen Ale, was released. While she has had fun helping to brew the beers in the series, she does have favorites.
“I think it is a tie between the Wit and Wisdom and the Girls, Girls, Girls Belgian Tripel, because I love Witbiers and Belgians and they were absolutely delicious!” Anjolie said.
Anjolie is also a member of Buffalo’s Chapter of the Pink Boots Society, and lends a hand during meetings as the group’s secretary. While the group is still new, she’s enjoyed working and learning alongside the other ladies of the Buffalo beer industry so far.
“I loved the idea of the FemAle Series so this was a step further, encouraging all women in the beer industry to come together as a community and support one another on an even larger scale,” she explained. “I have met some awesome ladies and hope to meet many more who have the same passion!”
When Anjolie isn’t behind the bar, she’s spending time with friends and family, exploring new breweries and even new cities! She also loves hanging out with her dog Gibbs who she says is the perfect amount of cuddly and playful. Gibbs loves going to dog-friendly breweries so you might run into him one day when you’re out and about!
The next time you’re in the tasting room make sure you say hi to Anjolie and congratulate her on being named Employee of the Quarter!
