When you walk into our tasting room, you’ll be greeted by friendly bar staff and a colorful craft beer list over 15 options long. If you factor in our mixologies, too, it could take you a little while to figure out what you want to drink.
But if you aren’t sure what to try, ask one of our brewtenders. Each of our brewtenders has spent long hours studying beer styles so they can help guide you to a beer that suits your tastes.
We’re not joking about those long hours either. Each of our staff has undergone training to become a Cicerone Certified Beer Server. That means that they’ve studied for, and passed, the Certified Beer Server test. You might see some of our brewtenders proudly wearing a patch to show off their expertise, but whether they’re wearing their patch at the time or not, all of our staff are happy to help you find the beer that you’ll love.
What is a Cicerone?
A Cicerone is to beer what a sommelier is to wine. They’re experts in beer from ingredients, to storing, to serving, to the story behind the brews.
Just like with wine sommeliers, there are levels to Cicerone certification that range from Certified Beer Server to Master Cicerone. The whole program is structured to provide industry standards on the education of people who work with beer. If you want to call yourself a Cicerone, you have to first study and earn the title.
So not only is our staff knowledgeable about beer, but we have the test results to prove it.
Why our staff is certified
Education is very important to us both for our employees and for our customers. We want to make sure that when you have a question, our employees can answer it.
It could be something simple, like why we serve our beer at a warmer temperature than what you’d expect from a microbrew, or why we like to serve certain beers in Spiegelau glasses. Or maybe the answer to your question is a little more complex, like how we come up with some of our more adventurous mixologies, or how a certain beer style came to be.
Whatever it is you want to know, we want to make sure that our staff is ready and able to answer your questions, or strike up an interesting conversation.
